We hold in high regard the invaluable historical insights that the Birch family has graciously shared with us, shedding light on the diverse roles and significance of the various rooms in their original ancestral home. 

An essential chapter in the story of Millwood Manor unfolds within this bedroom and bathroom, which underwent a remarkable transformation under the skilled hands of Derek and Jenny Birch in 1980, becoming a comfortable bedroom en suite.

The Birch family's recollections transport us back in time to when this room served as the "front room" or the "smart lounge." Here, visitors to Millwood were warmly received upon their arrival, and it was a hub of activity, especially for travelling salesmen and peddlers who came bearing a captivating array of goods, ranging from pots and pans to fine linens and essential farm wares. 

What makes this space even more captivating is its name - "The Parlour." It evokes a sense of nostalgia, as parlours were commonly referred to as such in houses dating back to the late nineteenth century.

"The Parlour" received its name from the French verb 'Parle,' meaning 'to speak,' which aptly captures its primary purpose as a place for engaging in conversations. Within these walls, an array of discussions and dialogues unfolded, be it amongst family members or with esteemed guests. 

This space functioned as the epicenter of both formal and informal social gatherings within the house, where tales were told, laughter was shared, and the bonds of relationships were nurtured.
